Refereeing Resources

Being a referee is challenging, rewarding and a great source of additional income. Referees 13 years and older are eligible to become Assistant Referees. Adults are also encouraged to become a part of the program. Help make your child’s youth sports program a success!

All referee program certifications will be completed through the US Soccer's Learning Center. ISRC CONDUCTS ALL USSF IL REFEREE IN-PERSON or WEBINAR COURSES.

CERTIFICATION PROCESS

First-Time Referees

First-time Referees

In order to certify as a First Time Grassroots Referee, you must be 13 years or older.

The following requirements, which can be found on the US Soccer Learning Center (linked here), must be completed.

  • U.S. Soccer Federation Gold Standard NCSI Background Check (if 18 years or older)
  • SafeSport (if 18 years or older)
  • Online Grassroots Referee Course Module
  • First Time Grassroots Referee Quiz
  • Attend an in-person session hosted by the State Referee Committee. See dates/times for in-person sessions below. 

You MUST complete ALL online requirements ONE WEEK prior to your in-person course to receive a badge at the in-person course.

Recertifying Referees

Recertifying Referees

In order to re-certify as a Grassroots Referee you must meet the follow eligibility standards:

  • 13 years or older
  • Have held a Grassroots license for a minimum of one (1) year within the last 3 years

The following requirements, which can be found on the US Soccer Learning Center (linked here), must be completed.

  • U.S. Soccer Federation Gold Standard NCSI Background Check (if 18 years or older)
  • SafeSport (if 18 years or older)
  • Online Grassroots Referee Course Module
  • First Time Grassroots Referee Quiz
  • Attend an in-person session hosted by the State Referee Committee.
